Sick/Fit Note Certificates

Self Certification Sick/Fit Note for 28 days or less

The government have brought in temporary measures regarding the self-certification period.  If you are off work after 10th December 2021 for 28 days or less, due to illness, you do not need to give your employer a fit note or other proof of sickness from a medical professional. If the period of sickness started before 10 December 2021, employees do not have to provide a fit note if they are off work for 7 days or less.

When you return to work, your employer can ask you to confirm you have been off sick. This is called ‘self-certification’. Your employer will agree on how you should do this. Many employers have their own self-certification forms. If your employer doesn’t have its own form you can download the Self Certification Form. Please print it, fill it in and hand it in to your employer. You do not need to see a Doctor.
